A nurturing atmosphere at Okara

At Educare Okara, near Okara Park and the heart of Whangārei, we create a calm, inviting space where families can feel at ease. We understand the challenges of balancing work and family life, especially for those commuting from Maunu, Raumanga, and surrounding areas.

Our children’s centre offers a beautiful indoor-outdoor flow, allowing tamariki (children) to connect with nature, while our friendly and approachable kaiako (teachers) are dedicated to truly getting to know each family and what matters most to them.

Outdoor spaces for discovery

The outdoor areas at Educare Okara are designed to captivate and inspire our tamariki. With expansive grassy spaces, two inviting sandpits, and the soothing presence of weeping willow trees, our children have the freedom to explore and play.

They often delight in spotting local wildlife, such as rakiraki (starlings) and pūkeko, and conversations about the trains and heavy machinery from KiwiRail next door add excitement to their day. The way our Teina space wraps around the Tuakana area allows both younger and older tamariki to connect, fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Supporting your child’s journey to school

We are committed to meeting each child where they are in their development, with learning shaped around their age and stage. Our thoughtful resources and routines cater to both teina (younger) and tuakana (older) children. By bringing everyone together at the beginning and end of each day, we create opportunities for strong relationships to flourish among tamariki and kaiako.

We value open and honest conversations with whānau (families), ensuring you feel supported every step of the way. As your child prepares for school, our regular visits to Morningside Primary School help foster confidence and ease during this significant transition.
