School readiness starts with confidence

Every child’s journey to school is unique. At Educare, we focus on helping tamariki develop the confidence, independence, and sense of belonging that supports a positive start to school.

Through everyday experiences, children learn to communicate their ideas, build relationships, follow routines, solve problems, and take responsibility for themselves and their belongings. These foundations help children approach their transition to school feeling capable, secure, and ready to embrace their next learning years.

Preparing for school through everyday learning

School readiness is about much more than academic skills. It’s about nurturing the attitudes and capabilities that help tamariki thrive in a new environment.

As children approach school age, our kaiako provide opportunities that encourage curiosity, resilience, concentration, independence, and confidence. Through learning and play, tamariki develop the social and emotional skills that support a successful transition to primary school and a lifelong love of learning.

Working alongside whānau

We believe preparing for school is a partnership. As your child gets closer to starting school, we take the time to understand your family’s plans, answer questions, and support you through the next stage of your child’s learning journey.

We share information about school enrolment, offer guidance where needed, and keep you informed about your child’s progress. By working together, we can help ensure your child feels confident, supported, and excited about their move to school.

Building community connections that count

Strong transitions are supported by strong relationships. Our centres build connections with local schools and help tamariki become familiar with what school may look and feel like before they start.

As children prepare for school, opportunities to explore their wider community help build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. Depending on the centre, these experiences may include visits to libraries, sports facilities, community clubs, cultural centres, retirement villages, farms, forests, and other local places of interest.

Carefully planned with children’s safety and wellbeing at the heart of every experience, these excursions help children build confidence, connect with others, and feel comfortable exploring new environments. These are important skills that support a positive transition to school and beyond.
